The New Yorker Magazine, February 14 1948, the complete issue in gorgeous shape. Abe Birnbaum illustrated the cover. This issue features the writing of Brendan Gill,
Harold Ross, John McCarten, Hugh Stix, R. W. Minton, Edward Newhouse, White, E. B. Geoffrey T. Hellman on Frank Crowninshield, James Thurber, Frances Gray Patton, Dorr, Evelyn Robert Lewis Taylor on Percy Grainger, Wolcott Gibbs, Helen Mears, H. J. Gottlieb, Lewis Mumford, John McCarten, Gordon Sager, and Robert A. Simon, and the cartoons of Otto Soglow, Sydney Hoff, Whitney Darrow, Jr., Mischa Richter, Charles Addams (his ghost ship cartoon), Richard Taylor, Richard Decker, William Scully, Anatol Kovarsky, Helen E. Hokinson, Leslie Starke, Otto Soglow, Chon Day, and Alan Dunn. The pages are crisp and clean, without a hint of foxing or any other staining, no writing, nothing missing, tight to the staples, with 1.5" splits at the spine ends otherwise as-new. Strictly graded VG; it was put away when brand new (along with many others we have) by an obsessive New Yorker collector from whom we acquired it, untouched since new until now. We have many other New Yorker issues from this once-in-a-lifetime collection, so if there is one you want that you don't see in our listings yet, please let us know. |
